Kyoto in Infrared
Kyoto is known for its vibrant red and orange leaves during the Fall. We managed to time our trip with near peak Fall color in early December. Only an idiot would shoot such beautiful colors in black and white. Well, I am that idiot. Whether false color or B&W, IR photography allows me to get unique photos even in the heaviest tourist areas.
Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Temple
Kiyomizu-dera at sunrise. We came here early to avoid the massive crowds. Unfortunately, the sun was too low to illuminate the trees. Sunset seems to be the most photogenic time to go, but also very crowded.
Yasaka pagoda. Lots of instagram happening here.
Visited some quieter corners of Kyoto.
The garden surrounding Heian Shrine was worth the 600 yen entrance fee. We went early and had the place to ourselves.
Around Maruyama Park. The amount of kimono photoshoots in this area blew my mind. Guarantee their feet were sore after walking more than 30ft in geta slippers.
Many times the only way to take a picture void of people was to aim at the ground.
Osaka
Walked around Osaka Castle before it opened its doors for tours. Highly recommend to avoid crowds. We didn’t go in the castle this time, but I remember doing the tour backwards last time (reverse chronological). Pretty sure you’re supposed to start at the top and work your way down.
We wandered through the gardens all around the castle grounds. The cherry/plum trees in spring would awesome to see.
Hopefully you’ve enjoyed these IR images. Should I do another post with all the color shots? Or some “street” photos? I would love to hear what you think and what you would like to see more of in the future. Considering signing up for updates so you’ll know when I post something new.
